The purpose of the present study was to assess the effectiveness of video and discussion-based intervention on the adolescents¡¯ knowledge and attitude toward contraception, and to provide useful data for the development of adolescents¡¯ sexuality education program. Quasi-experimental nonequivalent control group study was conducted to 360 students who attended E middle school in Seoul, Korea. One hundred seventy three students were assigned to an experimental group and the other 187 to a comparison group. A baseline examination was undertaken before the intervention in which students of both groups were asked to complete a self administered questionnaire concerning knowledge and attitude on contraception. The intervention comprised of brief lecture plus watching video session and brief lecture plus discussion session on teenage pregnancy problem in modern society and types/proper usage of contraceptive methods. Post-treatment examination was implemented immediately after the intervention and at 4 weeks follow up. The main results of this study were as follows: 1. The level of knowledge on contraception was higher in experimental group than in control group and its statistical difference was significant. 2. The attitude toward contraception was more positive in experimental group than in control group and its statistical difference was significant. 3. The increased level of knowledge on contraception was not maintained until the 4 weeks follow up, but improved positive attitude toward contraception was maintained through 4 weeks after the intervention. 4. The level of knowledge on contraception was positively correlated with the level of positive attitude on contraception.
